Well, here they are–the last three days of the remix chain! It was fun while it lasted but I’m glad to be wearing whatever the heck I want now. For this outfit, I remixed my forest green pants and avoided grey and navy blue–two of the colors I wear most with them. I like the look of the chambray and sweater with the green. I also took a chance and wore my riding boots even though there was a high chance of rain. (There are two water spots on one boot now and I don’t know how since it never rained when I was out! I’m quite sad and hopefully they’ll come off.)

I’m obsessed with this color combination. Camel (& cognac) + ivory + blue denim = perfection in my book. I adore this outfit even though there’s not a lot going on. I’ve been drawn to more minimalistic looks lately!

So, everyone knows what today is: the 10 year anniversary of Mean Girls! Of course, since today is a Wednesday, I had to wear pink. I also had to watch Mean Girls when I got home from school. That movie is so quotable, it’s ridiculous. I finished up my challenge with the jeans from yesterday and the top from the first day (do you remember?!). Because neither of those items were pink, I added pink in the next best way–with a scarf! I realize there are more colors than pink in it, but I think Regina George would approve, right? 😉

April Total (excluding PayPal) = $174 // $500 – $354 (Feb + Mar) – $174 (Apr) = -$28
The total budget I had left over for April and May increased to $146 from $71 because I ended up returning the Anthropologie dress I noted in my March budget post. I hadn’t even worn it and I found snags on it. Easily snagged fabric + cats with claws = bad news. (It was hanging in my closet, FYI–no cats got to it!) I still went a little bit over budget this month regardless of the increase. I’ll likely make some returns in May to get back in the positive.
I made a huge purchase at J.Crew Factory this month. Everything was 40-50% off (I think) plus an additional 20% off if you spent over $125. I’m still on the fence on the tops I got. I was most excited for the collared eyelet top, but it’s completely see-through and I did not expect that at all. I’m not sure if I want to wear a camisole with it all of the time. I won’t be keeping both of the other eyelet tops, but I haven’t made it to the store yet for returns. I can’t decide which color I like more! Ah! The bikini top I got was more than the bottoms because I had to do an exchange and the return fee tacked an extra $5 to its cost. I can’t wait to wear it this summer!
I’m also on the fence about the AEO sandals. They’re not very comfortable, but I’m having a heck of a time finding black sandals I like the look of. It’s probably not worth it to keep these.
All of my Madewell purchases were winners. I cannot wait to wear the striped tee, and the sandals are exactly what I was searching for! It feels good to be crossing things off of my spring/summer list that I’ve been wanting for weeks.
The Vince Camuto loafers were basically love at first sight. It’s too bad they’re not available at the regular Nordstrom in my size because they are less expensive there! I’m surprised I like them so much because the cutouts are pretty trendy. I’ve had black flats on my list for a while though with no luck finding any, so these are perfect to fill that hole. The reviews are a little bit iffy so I’ve been wearing them around the house to see if anything bad happens to them (such as stretching too much).
Lastly, I grabbed the ModCloth tote since I’ve had it on my list since January and I finally got a coupon code. I’m so weird about bags. I don’t fawn over them, but at the same time, I’m completely indecisive about them. I think I’m mostly concerned about the quality of this bag. I can’t tell how long it will last before looking beat up, and it hasn’t be around long enough for any reviews about the longevity of it.
ONE more thing–sorry for all the text! I want to be transparent regarding any items I receive for free (not that I work with any brands right now, but I plan on sharing what I do receive if it happens at some point in the future). This month, I won a giveaway hosted by Anna Belle, and this BaubleBar necklace is now mine! 🙂

I ended up taking a quick trip home this weekend. The trip was interesting, to say the least. Rosie pooped halfway through the drive there. I had just barely pulled off to make a stop at the rest area myself when I smelled it, so that was incredibly lucky. I drove through a downpour for miles on the way there, and on the way back, I drove through a huge snowstorm. There’s never a dull moment in the transitional seasons!
This weekend, I was all about simple comfort. I packed really basic pieces and didn’t jazz them up at all.

I love me some cardigans with awesome drape, like this one! Of course, stripes were necessary, too. The cool weather brought out some of my fall favorites (though to be honest, I’m still loving fall colors right now).

I’m going to be honest again and say that I wore these pants for maybe 10 minutes before changing into sweats for the drive back. I love them, but I dislike sitting in them for extended periods of time. Also, I realized I really like blue with these pants. (And grey. Always grey.)
A big THANK YOU to my youngest brother, who stood in as my photographer! 🙂

So, my jacket actually has sequins on it, not glitter. “From sequins to grey” didn’t quite have the same ring, so go with me, okay? 😉 I tried to dress up a little bit for my class presentation. There’s only one other student in that class, so I presented to two people–my classmate and professor. We could have invited more people, but I was not about to invite anyone to listen to me stutter over my words. Presentations are NOT my favorite! Anyway…back to the outfit. This jacket actually has shoulder pads in it! Do they look ridiculous over my already broad shoulders? I’ve been debating cutting them out.

I haven’t worn this lovely sweater in so long! I’m glad it cooled down a bit so I could wear it. I’m definitely going to miss it when it hits 100 degrees this summer. I debated for a long time about what top to wear today, mostly because I knew I’d have to wear it again tomorrow. I’m not going to lie, I’m so happy I only have six more days of this challenge. It’s not as hard as a 30×30 remix, but I still have to wear the one item from the previous day and I’m getting sick of it! (I’m also tired of taking photos every day. Chris was relieved when I said that, haha.)

I don’t have much to say today. I have a presentation in the morning and I’m still trying to figure out what my results mean. Hopefully it won’t be too long of a night for me.
It was warm enough to bare legs again! That might be the last time until May, though. I took full advantage, of course. I had to take my new sandals out for a spin. I’m obsessed with them and can’t wait to wear them all of the time this summer!

Chris thought I looked like a farmer in this outfit. All I could think of after that was this quote from Clueless, one of my favorite movies: “She could be a farmer in those clothes.” Ahaha. I wore my rain boots because it was supposed to rain, but it was also going to be warm so–shorts!

Happy Easter! 🙂 I had a pretty busy weekend. Chris and I went to comic con (all three days of it!), which is oddly exhausting. I guess walking around slowly on concrete and just being on your feet in general can do that to ya, huh? We dressed up on the second and third days. An older man took pictures of us yesterday because we were “weird and interesting”… We think that he had no idea who we were dressed up as. I’m not sure whether to feel freaked out or not because he had a huge camera and took close ups of our faces. After comic con, we prepared our house for Easter! We hosted a dinner/late lunch today with a few friends from school. We made a TON of food, and it was all delicious. Now I have to buckle down and get working on my term project.
Yesterday’s outfit ended up being too warm–go figure! I thought for sure I’d be fine because there was a chance of thunderstorms, but nothing rolled through to cool us down. I guess that’s what I get for wearing a winter sweater when we’re hitting 70 degrees.

I kept today’s look simple. I’ve been trying to think of outfits that incorporate my green flats. I didn’t anticipate how difficult it would be to match them with my other clothes! I like how the shoes are the main focus of this outfit (I feel like these shoes will always be the focus, though!). How gorgeous are the flowers behind me?! We drove by them yesterday and I knew I wanted to get photos there while the flowers were in bloom. It ended up being a perfect day today to be outside with the flowers. After the photo session, we had to stop by the store because we forgot some things for our dinner–of course!

I’ve discovered that I’m always drawn to grey garments. While I work on curating my perfect wardrobe, I keep in mind a color scheme so that everything will go together, and grey is definitely in that color scheme. I tried to get into browns, but other than my boots, which are various shades of brown, I’m drawn to blacks and greys. (It’s really not good considering my three partially white cats.) Instead of going full monochrome with this outfit, I added my cognac boots. In hindsight, I sort of wish I would have gone with grey or black shoes.

I was -this close- to wearing another grey sweater today, but I decided against it because I really wanted to wear my bright red sweater! Today was cooler (but still upper 60s), but the sweater was perfect because I didn’t really need a jacket. As much as I love layering sometimes, it’s nice to not have to worry about layers.
Chris and I have a jam-packed weekend planned, and I’m so excited! I’ll have to make an update about it in the next post. Our semester is also wrapping up soon and I’ve been SO busy with a term project and with paper edits. I feel like I have at least a week’s worth of work to do in the next four days…so that’s fun. I try to get my work done at school so I don’t have to do anything at home, but I’m feeling like I will need to work this weekend. #gradstudentlife

You’d be hard-pressed to find a fashion/style blogger who hasn’t referenced the well-known “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” quote from The Devil Wears Prada. (I haven’t seen that movie in so long and I feel a strong need to remedy that.) I mean, seriously though. You can’t go wrong with florals…in the spring. They just go together. You know, the snow melts (ideally–sorry East Coast!) and the sun shines a little higher in the sky and things start blooming. It’s just what happens. Yay for seasons!
You know what doesn’t go together? Floral skirts and wind. I always look at the forecast and get excited for a nice day because then I get to wear a dress or skirt. You know what I always forget about? The fact that if the next day is cooler, that means there’s going to be a frontal passage. And that means–you guessed it–WIND. Duh. Hello. I should remember this because I’m studying the atmosphere, but no. I forget almost every time.

I had to break out the tights after the cold front passed. I love the color of these tights, but there are little pulls all over them as if one of my cats attacked them one day. A couple of months ago, I did accidentally close Sybil in the drawer where my tights live. She was in there the entire time I was at school, so she likely tried to dig herself out at some point. Then she probably made a nest. My clothes were in such disarray! Ah well. At least I shouldn’t need them much for the next few months, and then I can get new tights when fall rolls around again.

I had a really unproductive weekend, which is nothing new. Someday I’ll actually clean what I plan on cleaning (I guess I did do laundry, ha!) and do more than just sit on the couch like a lump. The last few weeks of the semester are ALWAYS so stressful though. They are not any better in grad school (unless you aren’t taking any classes and aren’t working on a journal article or preparing for a conference). I’m one of those people who does nothing when my to-do list feels too overwhelming, which is the opposite of what I should be doing. Keeping up with my outfits has been a fun way to keep my head on straight!

Don’t you guys LOVE good mail days?! Usually I know exactly what days my packages are arriving, but today I received three surprise packages! (Well, I knew two of them were on their way, but I wasn’t expecting them until tomorrow!) It’s so fun receiving unexpected packages. My grandma sends care packages around each holiday and yet I’m always surprised to get a box of goodies in the mail! I also won my first blog giveaway & received that package today, which was filled with WAY more than just the item I won! (Thank you so much, Anna Belle!) My Amazon package came a day early, and in it, my lovely new external hard drive. I got down to 10 GB of free space on my SSD because I have 30,000 photos on it. I’m in the process of moving photos over to the external, which is why I’m posting so late. I’m trying to get all of my original iPhoto photos onto it and it’s taking for.ev.er.

Have you noticed a recurring theme with my outfits? What did I warn you about two posts ago? :p I firmly believe that one can never have too many stripes! I almost always like a shirt more if it has stripes. I may or may not have just purchased a new striped shirt, and I am so excited to receive it. I’ve been in love with it for weeks now. Which striped ensemble is your fave? I have to admit that I’m not completely sure how I feel about yesterday’s look. I was so looking forward to that outfit, but I can’t decide if it looks super weird or not. Ah well, this challenge is for experimenting!

Today, according to the humane society, my sweet girl is six years old! I adopted her nearly three years ago (four days after her third birthday), so she’s been with me for half of her life. She’s still just as feisty and loving (when she wants to be, of course)!
I got professional photos of her done a couple of years ago at my veterinarian’s office. It’s not as weird as you may think; for a donation to a local cat rescue, you could get photos done of your kitty at an event my vet was hosting! The photographer was super generous and it was entertaining trying to keep Rosie calm and still. I’ve purchased three prints but I plan to also buy some digital copies. She looked so adorable in her floral collar with the big purple bow!
Rosie’s favorite things include: open windows, fuzzy blankets, rubber wristbands, faucets that she can drink from, wet food, sleeping in sunshine, cardboard scratchers, and cuddling with me in bed. Her least favorite things include: her sisters when they chase/swat at her, plastic bags, when people pet her stomach/lower back, getting her nails clipped, and car rides.
When she drinks out of faucets, she gets most of the water on her head than in her mouth. The water hits the side or top of her head and runs down to her mouth. Sometimes she’ll stick her whole head under the faucet and let the water run off of her neck. It’s amusing until she shakes and gets water EVERYwhere. She is my special girl.
Rosie’s always been a big fan of laying on my homework. I guess I don’t give her enough attention! It’s fun doing homework with her until she thinks my pencil or eraser is a plaything.
Look at that sweet face! I feel very lucky to be able to call her my kitty! 🙂
