Hi friends! I’m so excited to introduce you all to my new blog, Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair! While I didn’t get everything done this weekend as I had planned (I severely underestimated how long it would take to organize all of my old posts!), it’s open and ready for you to come check it out. 🙂 I really hope you love it as much as I do. Don’t forget to subscribe to the RSS feed there or via Bloglovin so you don’t miss any posts! (I’m having my Bloglovin URL changed so Bloglovin users won’t miss any posts.)

Thank you all SO much for following along, however long you’ve been here! I’m so grateful for every single one of you and for how much I’ve learned here. I hope to learn and share even more in my new space, and I really hope you’ll all come join me there. 🙂

xoxo Kimi

First blogiversary!

I have been blogging for exactly a year as of today! Isn’t that exciting?! It went so fast; it’s so hard to believe it has already been a year!

The original reason why I started this blog was primarily to share outfits. I also wanted to blog a bit about my cats, the weather, travel, and life in general, but I didn’t really envision this becoming a full-on lifestyle blog, and I feel like I’ve kept it that way. (Though I don’t blog about the weather as much as I used to/wanted to, mostly because my research is climate-related and I’m still learning things about the weather. I don’t really feel comfortable blabbing about certain atmospheric processes and trying to teach my readers–you!–if I don’t fully grasp them myself!)

To be honest, I was inspired by other bloggers and their personal style blogs. I feel like this blog has helped me dress so much better than I was dressing before. I actually put more effort into outfits now than I used to, and I’ve loved watching my own personal style evolve within the past year. (I don’t recommend looking at my first few months of outfits, but if you must, I hope you can see the progression as well!) I can’t wait to see where the next year takes my style! I hope to continue to grow and feel even more confident in the clothes I buy and wear.

I am so grateful for all of my followers! Over 100 of you from email, WordPress, and Bloglovin’ are subscribed and I can’t even believe that many people want to follow along. Thank you, thank you! I truly appreciate each and every one of you!

That being said, I have decided to put together a brief survey for you to complete in order for me to get a better idea of where you guys are coming from and what posts you like (or don’t like) to read! I would love to hear your feedback. I kept the survey short at only ten questions, and it should only take you a couple of minutes to complete. Please click here to take the survey! Thank you so much in advance for helping me make Twenty-Something Simple better. 🙂

Liebster Blog Award

ImageThere’s a cute, chain-like blog award called the Liebster Award that bloggers give to their favorite up-and-coming bloggers, and I was nominated by the lovely EE of savory/sweet/style. (Thank you!) Liebster is German and takes on many meanings from dearest to kindest to beloved to sweetheart. This award is a fun way to spread the word about new bloggers and give others a chance to check them out! I hope you enjoy, and if you are one of my nominees, I hope you pass it on!

  • You must link back to the person who nominated you.
  • You must answer the 11 questions given to you by the nominee before you.
  • You must pick 11 nominees with under 200 (or whatever–I’ve seen variations from 200 to 1000 to 2000) followers to answer your questions.
  • You cannot nominate the person who nominated you.
  • You must let the people you nominate know they have been nominated.

Questions from savory/sweet/style:

1. Why did you start a blog?

I started a blog as a way to write creatively and get away from all of the scientific writing I’m doing as a graduate student. I was inspired by fashion blogs, and since I was overhauling my wardrobe at the time, I thought it’d be fun to dive into fashion blogging myself to sort of figure out my style.

2. Favorite piece of clothing in your closet?

Wow, this is a tough one! I absolutely love my A Chance of Showers Skirt that I got from ModCloth a couple of years ago for 70% off. (I wore it in my last post and also once last fall.) It makes me feel so girly and lovely.

3. Something that most people don’t know about you?

I am a quarter Mexican. No one ever believes me!

4. Favorite smell?

This is also nearly impossible to answer. I guess because the holidays ended not too long ago, I’d have to say the smell of Christmas trees. I absolutely love it. I will never have a fake tree for this reason.

5. Dream job?

It would be absolutely incredible to get paid to travel the world and completely immerse myself in new cultures and try new food and then write about it. There are lots of things I think would be amazing to do. I think it’ll be hard for me to stay in the same job for a long time because I like variety; I never want every day to be the exact same. I guess that’s why I love meteorology so much. The weather is always changing!

6. Something you can’t go a day without?

I can’t go a day without loving on my cats. I’m either petting them, cuddling with them, playing with them, or talking to them. Or all of that at once.

7. Favorite band, song, artist….whatever suits applies.

I have so many favorite musical artists. It really just depends on my mood. One artist I have always loved and will always love is Taylor Swift. I love each of her albums. Like they say, there’s a Taylor Swift song for everything–every emotion, every situation. The fact that we’re close in age makes me feel like we’ve grown up together.

8. Favorite quote or song lyric?

“Everything happens for a reason.” I pretty much live by that quote.

9. Role model?

It’s so hard for me to pick just one. There are so many role models in my family–my parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. I also look up to a few bloggers; from what little I know about them, they’ve really been positive influences on me, and their wholesomeness comes through in their blogging.

10. The best meal you’ve ever had?

I’m so lucky to have had so many wonderful meals. It’s so hard to choose just one. (Red wine marinated steak and mashed potatoes, get in my belly!) There is one meal I’m always telling people about, though, and it’s the basil pesto gnocchi I had in Riomaggiore, one of the five towns that make up the Cinque Terre in Italy. It was the BEST I have ever had. I can’t wait to go back just for that.

11. Something you wish you did more?

I wish I travelled more. First, I need to save up more money, haha.

My questions:

  1. What is your favorite part about blogging?
  2. How do you keep your blog thoughts organized?
  3. What is one word that describes your style?
  4. What is your favorite animal?
  5. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
  6. If you could only visit one country outside of your own, which one would you choose?
  7. What’s your favorite month of the year?
  8. What’s your favorite way to eat potatoes?
  9. What’s your favorite TV show?
  10. Do you have any siblings?
  11. What is your favorite pattern to wear?

Talking is dead with these fake conversations

Young the Giant, an alternative rock band based in Irvine, California, is releasing their sophomore album, Mind Over Matter, this Tuesday the 21st. If you like Imagine Dragons, Fall Out Boy, Neon Trees, Foster the People, and/or Grouplove, you should definitely check this band out. I was first introduced to their debut album two summers ago and fell in love! (I saw them in concert only a week after listening to their album and they are AWESOME live!)

I’m obsessed with Mind Over Matter and can’t wait for the release. For the next two days, you can listen to the entire album free on iTunes, and I highly recommend you do so. I’ve listened to it every day since last Tuesday and can’t get enough. Chris and I are going to see them on their upcoming Mind Over Matter Tour, and we are SO excited! It’s going to be incredible.

In other news, this is how I look almost every time I’m blogging (yes, including the silly faces). Melody is my moral support. She is so sweet! I hope you all are having a wonderful (and long) weekend! And let me know if you listen to Mind Over Matter! xo

Follow me on Bloglovin!

I recently discovered the website Bloglovin. It’s super cool! You can follow all of the blogs you like in one place. There’s a feed (sort of like the Facebook feed) of posts, and you can pick how you want to be notified of new posts from the blogs you follow (I get one email every evening telling me the new posts). You can use the search feature to find more blogs you might like! There are so many cool fashion and lifestyle blogs floating around the internet that I wouldn’t know about had I not found Bloglovin!

If you enjoy reading my blog, please follow me! I added a button on the sidebar so you can follow my blog on Bloglovin (make sure you follow my blog–not my account!). If you don’t want to make a Bloglovin account, you can always follow me if you have a WordPress account, or you can follow me via email.

If you found me via the ModCloth Style Gallery, hello, and thank you for checking my blog out!

Thank you so much to all of my followers! I know ten isn’t a lot, but it’s a lot more than I thought I would have considering I’m a newbie.

And now, some cat pictures, just for good measure…

Welcome :)

I started writing my first real post, and then I decided I should probably do one of the cliche “Welcome to my blog!” type of posts. I recently had my birthday, and as I dive deeper into the world of being a twenty-something, I finally decided to actually blog. No more thinking about it and talking about it. Now I am actually going to do it, in addition to thinking about it and talking about it.

I know there are a LOT of bloggers out there. It’s pretty overwhelming, actually, thinking about all of the bloggers and all of the blogs. There are plenty twenty-somethings blogging about their twenty-something lives. I guess I just wanted to add my voice to the blog world.

I’m going to talk a lot about my life, which revolves mostly around graduate school, my cats, and my relatively recent obsession with my personal style. It probably won’t even be remotely interesting at times, so thank you in advance if you decide to follow me. I enjoyed creative writing a lot when I was younger, but I haven’t been doing it a lot these past few years. Since college started, I’ve been writing mostly scientifically, and I REALLY need to write creatively again. There are only so many dry sentences I can put together before I must add a colorful adjective to spice things up.

And that’s why this blog was born.
